When watching Carlos Delgado ’16, ’18 work with patients it becomes immediately evident that helping others brings him joy. Delgado was one of the recipients of the Golden Bear Physical Therapy Endowed Scholarship. This Powell matched scholarship is awarded to doctor of physical therapy (DPT) students who have demonstrated a commitment to community service. A Stockton native, he has been serving his hometown since he was an undergraduate student at Pacific. Delgado has volunteered with Saturday Partners in Education, which brings children ages 6-12 to the Pacific campus to give them a glimpse into college life. He has also volunteered with Habitat for Humanity, as well as Very Special People, which uses bowling to connect with and encourage adults with developmental disabilities.

Delgado has been shaped by his family’s strong work ethic. His appreciation for hard work translates into a keen awareness of the needs of those patients who would benefit from the expertise of a physical therapist but have limited financial resources. Looking forward to his career as a physical therapist, he wants his patients to know that they can expect services of the highest caliber and that he is sensitive to the cost of treatment.

He always knew he wanted to work in health care. “Physical therapy was the perfect connection that intertwined the things I love: medicine, physiology, anatomy, exercise and physical activity,” said Delgado. “Currently, I wish to specialize in either orthopedics or sports to further my education.” He plans to pursue a residency so that he can further build upon his patient care and clinical skills.
