Madhu Sundarrajan, PhD, CCC-SLP, assistant professor of speech-language pathology, traded ones and zeros for a career centered on human interactions. She earned her bachelor of information technology from University of Delhi. “I completed my undergraduate training in information technology and realized that my passion is working with people, rather than computers,” said Dr. Sundarrajan. “That led me to explore different fields of study. I ended up deciding on speech-language pathology when I sat in on an informational workshop on the scope of practice of speech-language pathology. I loved that I could work with people every day and help them with their communication needs.” She earned her master of science in communication sciences and disorders and her doctor of philosophy from The University of Texas at Dallas.
She joined the Pacific family in 2019. Prior to coming to Pacific, she was a clinical assistant professor at The University of Texas at Austin.
Dr. Sundarrajan has extensive teaching, research and clinical experience in speech and language intervention for children with cochlear implants and those who are on the autism spectrum. She also has experience working with bilingual and multilingual children on their speech and language developmental milestones. Dr. Sundarrajan has been awarded a number of research grants, including a $10,000 research grant from the Capita Foundation for the project “Communication Outcomes in Children with Unilateral Hearing Loss: A Pilot Study.”

Her approach to teaching mirrors the ethos of Pacific. “I believe in a student-centered approach to teaching and my primary goal is to teach my students to be critical thinkers,” she said. What she loves about Pacific is the interactions with students and her fellow faculty members. “I admire the commitment to the students and their learning. I love that the students are enthusiastic and engaged. I have absolutely enjoyed my time with them.”
